Casale, ormai chiamato Casal di Pari per la vicinanza con il primo e grande borgo di Pari, si trova su un colle ad un’altezza di 481 metri.
Fu dominato dagli Ardengheschi e poi si sottomise a Siena. Il primo agglomerato urbano risale al XII secolo (anno 1100). Ad oggi dell’antica struttura rimangono soltanto le strette strade e la piazza.
Anticamente Casale comprendeva poche abitazioni per le famiglie che lavoravano nei campi e per quelle addette alla residenza del vescovo che fu costruita da Fabio de Vais, nobile senese nel 1573.
La chiesa di San Donato (patrono di Casale festeggiato il 7 agosto) appartiene al XV secolo (anno 1400), fu distrutta e ricostruita nel 1700. La cosa più interessante è rappresentata da una pietra inserita nello stipite che sorregge la porta laterale detta “degli uomini”; su questa porta c’è un’iscrizione che farebbe pensare che provenisse dall’antico convento di San Antonio in Val d’Aspra di cui restano notizie storiche e ruderi di un muro.
Davanti alla chiesa c’è il pozzo costruito per far prendere l’acqua alle persone, perché a quei tempi l’acqua non arrivava nelle case.
In via Palestro si trova la casa dove nacque Aurelio Galleppini in arte Galep, disegnatore di Tex, al quale viene dedicata una mostra ogni 2 anni.
Casale, nowadays known as Casal di Pari due to its proximity to the first largest village of Pari, is located on the top of a hill at 481 meters asl.
It was dominated by the Ardengheschi and then subjugated to the power of Siena. The first urban agglomeration dates back to the 12th century, but today of the ancient structure remains only the narrow streets and the square. In the past the village includes only few houses for those families working in the fields or in charge of the maintenance of the bishop’s residence, which were built in 1573 by Fabio de Vais, a noble Sienese.
St. Donato the patron of Casale is celebrated every year on 7th August; the townÕs main church, destroyed and rebuilt in 1700, is dedicated to him and dates back to the fifteenth century. On a stone set in the jamb that supports the side door – called “menÕs door” – there is an inscription that would suggest it comes from the ancient convent of San Antonio in Val d’Aspra, of which remains a few historical information and its wall ruins.
In front of the church there is a well that provided water to the entire village since private houses were not connected to the water mains. Aurelio Galleppini, aka Galep, the illustrator of the comic series of Tex was born in Casal di Pari, his house is located in Via Palestro where every two years takes place a dedicate exhibition.
